Too much energy is spent on becoming great. It is fueled by an insatiable need for significance, of worth. Today’s culture suffocates us with this Greatness ideology.

It utilizes the carrot and stick motivation. It creates a scarcity mentality that convinces you that you are not whole until you become great. Your worth is measured by your productivity and fame. It leverages the comparison game. Someone is always going to be greater than you.

I believe this is one of the cancers that is robbing our world of beauty.

Worth is not earned. It’s discovered.

You are worthy and you will be missed.

What if we instead focused our energy on being Good. What if we reserve the identity of Greatness to the only one I know to be Great. The Great I AM.

Can we embraced our original design to be good?

“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth and along with it, He created the Human. Then God saw all that he had made, and it was very GOOD. And there was evening, and there was morning — the sixth day.” — Genesis 1:31

Let’s use “Great” to identify the work that we do as good stewards of our lives, gifts and talents. I believe that will free us from the trap of identity poverty and move us to create the great beauty that the world so desperately needs. It will move us to bring meaning to our work, not find our meaning and worth from the work.

Let’s be good and do great work.
