One of the best self help books I have read is “The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People” by Dr. Stephen Covey. The book talks about the habits we could incorporate into our lives. This and many other books stress the importance of focusing on all four aspects of yourself ( Physical, Mental, Emotional and Spiritual ) on a daily basis. They suggest incorporating habits to improve yourself in all four ways, and that this will have an amazing impact on you in the long run.

So today, I want to write about the Physical Aspect of self improvement.

It is no secret that you need to take care of yourself. You get only one body throughout your life. So might as well take care of it.

Fitness is essential to operate at your best. Whether it is work, social life or spending family time, you will never be able to engage fully in anything if you are not physically fit.

One of the characteristics common to successful people in this world is that they have a routine. They keep some amount of the time in the day to work on their body. It could be running, playing a sport, going to the gym or yoga.

Some of the ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle, that I have incorporated into my daily routine are:

  1. Doing some amount of exercise early morning everyday.
  2. Having a healthy diet. Avoiding junk food, processed foods, excessive sugar and oily food.
  3. Playing a sport once or twice in the week(Football/Squash)
  4. Going to swim once a week
  5. Walking around at regular intervals during working hours
  6. Drinking LOTS of water.
  7. Tracking my fitness levels using a Fitness tracker. It helps to keep me motivated to complete my daily goal and also know if I need to make any changes to my routine.

Initially its difficult to make this change to your routine. Especially if you are used to staying up late at night. But getting up early in the morning and working out has no equals. It prepares your body for the rest of the day. As research suggests, it also releases endorphins in your body which makes a person feel happy. You will active, alive and fresh. And the benefits compound as you keep yourself regular.

By adopting a healthy lifestyle, not only does one help to prevent diseases and other bodily issues, but also feels the effect taking over him in other parts of his life as well. You feel more disciplined, you are able to respect that gaining anything requires continuous amount of effort and that the goal is always worth the amount of time and effort you had put in. This will help you to relentlessly work towards any personal of professional goals you may have as you now get an idea as to achieve/strive for good results.

Exercising and staying fit has amazing benefits. If you don’t believe me, try it out for six months. The results will amaze you ;)

So, Happy exercising!
