There is a maker space in The Big Building. It’s called maakplek. Participants put their efforts together, and are now able to laser cut, cook, do woodworking, 3D print, code, solder, measure, weld, sew, and a whole lot more.

Why not build custom longboards from the ground up? And add awesome decals with our humongous vinyl cutter? Sure! Ralph van der Hoek suggested a ‘build your own custom longboard’ workshop and was overwhelmed with the enthusiasm for it. Together with some The Big Building inhabitants (hello Spindlers!) maakplek participants and Ralph started with just some wood, glue and ambitions. In the following workshops, wood was glued, bend, cut, sanded down into the perfect deck. The 1.5m vinyl cutter came in handy to get the perfect shape of the deck and make some great decals.

Trunks and wheels were ordered, boards were finished and test ridden through the city. Good times were had. Makers made, mingled and created their perfect longboards.

And that is just one of the many, many workshops and possibilities at maakplek.

Previous workshops include: short video making, cooking fresh Vietnamese spring rolls, messing around with epoxy, build your own IoT thing, draailampje soldering, wooden sword making and much more.
