Work in The Big Building never comes to a halt. Start-ups work hard to let their companies grow and make dreams come true. But we all know that success comes at a price… Before an ‘up’ often comes a ‘down’ and the other way around. The trick is to embrace your mistakes and learn from them. Otherwise, penicillin would’ve never been invented, America wouldn’t have been discovered and we’d still brew our tea from loose tea leaves instead of convenient little bags. That’s what Screw Up is about.

The process of dealing with your own failures and those of others fascinates a team of young entrepreneurs, which made them create Screw Up. They celebrate the imperfection of entrepreneurship and want to get rid of the taboo of making mistakes. Screw Up focusses on ‘making the best of mistakes’ and celebrates blunders. Making mistakes is OK and is necessary for innovation. In many companies, there is a lot of attention for the way mistakes can be prevented by means of procedures, supervision and control mechanisms. However, it is impossible to totally prevent making mistakes. When a mistake has been made, it is important to discover the cause of that mistake and share your findings with others. Only then you can develop, innovate and improve the quality of your work. Of course, this is much easier said than done. When you want to get the best out of your faults, you need an atmosphere with a tolerance for faults, that is flexible and safe. During public and business events, Screw Up pays attention to fault-friendliness and the fault management of organisations by means of several kinds of workshops, meetings and trainings.

Is your company failure-friendly? Do you get up stronger after you fall down? Or would you like some help with the development of a failures-friendly environment? Please, speak to Mark Sekuur, one of the young entrepreneurs that created Screw Up. You can find him at the third floor of The Big Building where he always wants to share his tips and tricks while enjoying a nice hot chocolate.
