From Ethiopia to Medium: My Journey to Becoming a Writer

It’s been almost five months since I discovered what Medium is and how its platform works.

During the first three months, I created an account, began reading stories, and tried to understand the main purpose of Medium — how it stands apart from other platforms through its reader engagement, ad-free experience, and its ability to give writers a space to share insights, perspectives, and build a community that creates collective impact.

Trying to Grow in a Place Where Medium Is Unknown

Soon after, I started posting on my account and trying to grow my followers. I followed anyone that came to mind and even asked friends to create accounts — because honestly, almost no one in Ethiopia knows what Medium is.

So, I had no choice but to start posting both on Medium and on other platforms, sharing the link to my Medium account everywhere I could. My main goal through all this was to increase my followers and raise awareness about Medium here in Ethiopia.
