We’ve got issues

And they’re lovely.

This time of the year’s got a sparkling energy that comes with the falling of the old to make space for the new. Last year, I was packing in four goodbye dinners a week prior a move from Delhi to Dublin. The year before that, I was picking and choosing the right words for a resignation letter. The year before that, I was falling out of love with other people and more in love with myself.

Somewhere between September equinox and December solstice this year, my team and I, too, fell — like autumn leaves — for the idea of a new publishing format. We spent a long time taking a final call on the navigation that exists on the website, which shall remain. However, our decision of having a concise display format whilst leaving borderless room for contextual exploration has provided us the possibility of issues.

All traditional magazines have them. And although we’re as non-traditional as they get, we’re solidifying our position as a magazine. We’re getting into a fixed writing, production and publishing cycle. We’re saying we like certain norms of the publishing industry. We’re reiterating that we’re not a blog. We’re rooting for all magazines — whether they be print, online, literary or food.

November 2017 onward, Binge will publish four stories under a pre-decided monthly theme. Every month, four out of the six sections on the website will be utilised variably to communicate thoughts, ideas and facts to do with eating and drinking. Each theme will take its cue from “Binge”: one word, punchy enough to mobilise you. Each will come with its very own, relevant tag. Each will hit you hard, but won’t hurt. It won’t feel like a bang, but a boom — rumbling, resounding, resonating; each one a mental click that’d make you go “Ah!”.

Watch this space for November’s theme and our first issue. Coming sooner than you’d expect.
