A Platform Celebrating Podcasters and Content Creators of Color
The problem: Under-representation
Podcasters and content creators of color are underrepresented in the media industry. Podcasts fully led by podcasters of color represent under 5 % of the top 10–20 lists on all major streaming platforms (e.g. iTunes, Spotify, Soundcloud, Buzzsprout).
There are so many Podcasters and content creators of color that are delivering excellent content but no one knows about them. Furthermore, platforms for Podcasters and creators of color that creates an opportunity for exposure are very little in numbers.
According to the Founder of The Black & Brown Podcast Festival, “As a person of color, it was an extremely daunting process to find podcasts that related to me and my experience. I knew that this content was out there but, where? And, how do I start to find them? Fortunately, I found out about certain podcasts and content through word of mouth. But, it wasn’t enough for me. I believe that our narratives and our stories should be amplified as well as easy to find! This was the inspiration behind The Black & Brown Podcast Festival’s platform!”
The solution: The Black & Brown Podcast Festival (BBPF)
The Black & Brown Podcast Festival platform objectives are:
- To feature and showcase Podcasters and content creators of color
- To provide a platform to discover Podcasters and content creators of color
- To promote and highlight Podcasters and content creators of color role in new and emerging media
- To encourage and promote diversity and inclusion in new and emerging media platforms
- To bring original content which highlights creators of color
BBPF desires to find creative and innovative ways to highlight Podcasters, content creators of color, and bring new content online and offline to the global audience through its extended and ongoing platform.
