Summer Walker’s Still Over It is finally available on streaming platforms. Here are a few of my favorite tracks.

“Bitter”

The album starts with “Bitter,” a song addressing all of the rumors and drama that have taken place over the past few years. She expresses her feelings about London on the track (her baby’s father) and other women who’ve intruded on their relationship.

Bitter, yeah, mad at me, mad at my n****/ Mad at the fact he ain’t witchu, mad at the fact that it’s me/ But this s*** bigger than me and you alone/ So why you puttin’ on for the Shaderoom and Insta? B*tches just be lookin’ for attention

At the end of the song, Cardi B gives some advice to Walker.

“Well, Summer Walker, you know I been seein’/ You know all the b*llsh*t that’s been goin’ on with you today/ And, you know, I don’t know if the rumors are true/ I don’t know, I don’t care, it’s not my business, but if it’s true/ Don’t let b*tches, like, make/ Don’t let them feel like they have a one-up by destroying your moment..”

“Unloyal” featuring Ari Lennox

Unloyal has to be my favorite song off the album so far. Ari Lennox is such a soulful artist. I feel like she makes her presence well known on every feature. Summer took a trip to Ari World for this one.

“I guess I’m unloyal, baby/ I guess I’m untrue/ I guess I’m unloyal, baby/ We’ll call it what you want/ I guess I’m unloyal, baby/ I guess I’m untrue, oh/ Guess I’m unloyal, baby/ Oh, so call me what you want”

The lyrics to the chorus are so unbothered and laid-back. It matches the smooth instrumentation. The repetitive, “I guess I’m unloyal baby,” makes the song easy to remember.

“Closure”

In “Closure,” Walker explains wanting to end her relationship finally but feeling like she’s being reeled back in every time.

“Every time I need closure, closure/ Mess around and get closer to you/ Don’t you make me feel hungover/ Gotta get, get, get sober or I can’t feel nothing/ Why you gotta hang your love over my head like that? Why’d you do it baby? I’m just tryna get closure, closure/ Just tryna get closure from you”

I have no answer to why situations like these seem to happen, but if I had to take a wild guess, I would say that we hate to see our relationships end. We fear the feeling of being lonely again.

“Session 33”

Similar to “Session 32,” Walker releases the emotional woes of her relationship on the track. I love when artists let their feelings loose on a record without song structure — just free-range. There’s no pre-thought agenda. Everything is raw and emotional.

“Long as they call your name/ You’ll continue to try to play these games/ Leave our family in the cold and rain/ And I don’t think you’ll ever change your ways/ Cause a house is not a home when no one’s there/ So alone, no ones there/ Should I move on since no one’s here? Here”

The only difference between “Session 32” and “Session 33” is the vocals. I feel like the auto-tune strips away the personality and feeling. Lyrically, it’s more detailed, but the feeling isn’t as prevalent.
