How to build strong foundations for your future

“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against the house; yet it did not fall, because it had foundations on the rock.” — Mark 7:24–25

Before you build anything in life, you first need to build a strong foundation that will hold the structure in place. The structure consists of a root system that goes deep into the soil before any fruit can be produced.

Your life is the same.

You need to build your life on a strong foundation that won’t get shaken up by the storms of life. The type of foundation that will withstand the toughest of trials as you yourselves mature into the finest of wines.

A strong foundation that will help you go from strength to strength, and from victory to victory, as you mature into the type of person who conquers in life.

Listen. You will encounter trials in life, but a house that is built on a strong foundation, will last the test of time.

Now, lets address some areas in your life that are stopping you from building the right type of foundation.

Your care too much about what everyone thinks of you

And because of this, you’re turning into the type of person everyone else wants you to be and not into your real authentic self. Your reacting to your environment. Your reacting to the voices of the people that are surrounding you. They tell you what to eat, what to drink, what to wear, where to work, how you should be spending your time and whom you should be dating. These voices include the magazines your reading, the movies your watching, your favorite TV series, your uncle, your mom, your dad, your best pal and even your lovely girlfriend. They don’t really know you, and honestly, neither do you or else you wouldn’t be in this quarter life crisis. You should thus return to the source of life, the Alpha and the Omega, the Guy upstairs who actually created you and knows you more than you know yourself. He’ll guide you, He’ll tell you who you really are. He’ll build you up from the inside until you morph into a butterfly. A butterfly that spreads its wings, and blesses all who gaze upon it.

Jesus took a bullet for you on the cross, so the least that you can do for Him is to pull out a chair, sit down and ask Him, “Why, but why did you create me?” “What purpose is there for my life?”. Tell Him how tired you are of becoming the person everyone else wants you to be. Tell Him that you want Him to take control of your life. That you want Him to become the shepherd of your life so that He can lead you to greener pastures. Make Him your foundation. Give it up all to Him. Do it now!

Jesus doesn’t promise a storm free life, but He promises to storm proof your life

I’m afraid that you might just get this wrong. After you surrender your life to Jesus Christ, you might come to expect that everything in your life will run smoothly like in the dreams and visions you sometimes escape into. But to be honest, it’s more likely that the storms will intensify. The enemy, aka the devil, will try his best to shake up your new found foundation. Think of this as an adventure, your the hero, the guy everyone always wants to be. The enemy, the devil, is trying to knock you off your feet at every turn, but unfortunately for the devil, God has left you with a guide called the Holy Spirit. What the Holy Spirit does is that He helps you navigate all the traps and hurdles the enemy throws at you. The more you obey and listen to the Holy Spirit, the stronger He gets as a navigation system. And in no time, you’ll start to get comfortable with being uncomfortable. And that’s when the real journey begins. In the uncomfortable. The edges where everyone else is afraid to go. You shall conquer these enchanted waters that everyone else deemed as impossible to conquer, and then everyone else will know that Jesus is the solid foundation they need.

You need endurance for the journey

This will be a journey. Anyway, it has never been about the destination, it’s always been about the journey. A very long journey that you must learn to fall in love with. All of life is. So don’t think that you’ll become the next Picasso over night. Rest in the process. Take this as your time to get to know the nature and characteristic of Jesus Christ. The original prototype for all those who believe in Him. Day by day. Date after date. Mr. Jesus will show you how much of a gentleman He truly is. He’s not into taking things too fast. He takes things slow in order to nurse the stretch marks of your growth.

Building the right foundations means dealing with your weaknesses

This is probably the most difficult of them all, as currently you might think that you are a gift sent from heaven. You are, but your not quite there. Remember the Holy Spirit I told you about? He’s also a guide that will help you prune out your weaknesses and turn them into strengths. It’s gonna be hard at first, and you’ll probably start by pruning out the areas in your life that you feel the most comfortable in doing so. You’ll gain momentum and eventually you’ll prune out the areas of your life that you should have started with in the first place. These are the real root problems. The icky areas in your life that have been keeping you from becoming the person God has created you to be. Yes. You could start here, but you probably won’t. Please prove me wrong.

that’s my two cents on how to build a solid foundation for your future. And to summarize;

  • Stop caring too much about what people think of you.
  • Build your foundation on Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. He’s the only person/God who Loves you unconditionally.
  • Surrendering your life to Jesus doesn’t mean that your life will be storm free, but means that it will be storm proof.
  • You’re going to need endurance to run your race well. It’s all about the journey.
  • Along your journey you will need to prune out your weakness and turn them into strengths that will shine a light for others.

Along this journey of yours, you might just encounter a passion, a dream, a vision that Jesus has already place into your heart. That vision, dream is why you where placed on this earth in the first place. Only God and the real authentic you know the dream.

“But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” — Mark 7:26–27
