The Block Print explores the art scene in Bangalore, India, and is curated and maintained by second-year honours students of the Department of Communication Studies at Mount Carmel College.

Kavyaa Rajesh Rajan is an undergraduate student at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore pursuing an honours degree in Communication Studies. A fashion enthusiast and an aspiring fashion journalist, Kavya hopes to cover everything in trend. As a writer of the newsletter — The Fine Print and also having interned at The Hindu, Bangalore she aims to use those experiences in writing and reporting. Kavya loves to travel and is an adventurous person as a result of which she enjoys meeting new people and hearing their stories. Apart from fashion, her interests lie in dance and music and uses that as an escape from the crazy and busy life of college and the city.

Susan Jesudian is a student of Communications. She is an amateur photographer and spends her free time walking around her neighbourhood, taking pictures of empty cups. She interned as a junior editor in Notion Press, a self-publishing house, over the summer. Now she works for them as a freelance editor. Having worked briefly for a positive journalism organization called Unsung people, she realized she wanted to venture a little deeper into the field of Journalism. She has also worked as an editor for an edition of her college newsletter, The Fine Print. She is a mother to a cat, Donna.

Tshering Yolmo is an undergraduate major studying media and communications. She has worked as an interim reporter and editor in the past at The Statesman English daily focusing on local news reporting and writing. She also headed Humans of Darjeeling (a page intended at collecting street interviews and photo blogs). Her interests includes reading; mostly whiles away the time reading Haruki Murakami and poetry. She likes to try her hand at poetry and song writing sometimes and is currently exploring the fields of photography and film making. Selective introvert at heart with a huge fondness for personal space but prefers the company of humans on her gloomy days.

Vaishnavi Kaushik is a second year communication studies student of Mount Carmel College. A feminist, she likes changing the world in her own ways. Besides changing the world, she loves taking pictures and enjoys good humor. Editing videos and experimenting on Photoshop is something which interests her. Kaushik interned at The Times of India, a national daily, in the summer of 2018. She was also the Project Head of “Fine Print”, a yearly newsletter by the Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. She loves having conversations and listening to good music.

Sheryl M. Yaseen is an undergrad student doing her Honours in Communication Studies. She’s previously worked as an intern at the Times of India newspaper, and thus has experience in writing for the city beat, political beat, as well as in writing features. While working under the times of India, Sheryl actively covered various events with respect to the Karnataka State elections of 2018. Under the communication course she’s explored the arts in both India as well as the Western world. Sheryl has experience writing reviews for Indian Classical Dance performances, under the guidance of the communicatons department. Although prior to this she had minimal knowledge on the arts in India, Sheryl now hopes to educate herself more, explore more, as well as appropriately represent the arts in India, and specifically in the city of Bangalore.

Sanvidha Rajesh is an undergrad Communications student from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore. Her interests include cricket, cinema and city life, and has managed to write a couple of articles on the same during her course. She has been one of the project managers of her department’s newsletter, Fine Print. She has earlier worked for Sportskeeda, writing articles on the 11th season of IPL. She’d love to work towards bridging the gap between her thoughts and words to convey better stories.

Rithika Pillai was inclined to start writing about Indian art, fuelled by her family’s love for the performing arts. She’s been a copy editor for her college’s newsletter and loves talking to people, often forgetting that it’s for a story. She is a watch aficionado but is ironically terrible with time.

Manvee Bhandia is an honours student in Media and Communications, , discovered her love for journalism and photography while working for Unsung People. Currently a freelance photographer, she enjoys taking up projects that challenge her and push her to her creative limits. She has also designed, written for and edited ‘Fine Print’, a yearly newsletter at Mount Carmel College, Bangalore.

Akanksha Nene is an undergraduate student pursuing her Honours in Communication and Media, set to graduate in 2020. She graduated from Bishop Cotton Girls’ School in 2017. She finds joy in noticing, interacting with, and writing about people that exist around everyone but often go unnoticed. She has interned as a city reporter at The Hindu BusinessLine in the summer of 2017. Besides this, she is a soon to be published poet (Aatish 2) and is passionate about painting and other forms of fine art.

Teresa Braggs is a second-year honours student of Department of Communication Studies at Mount Carmel College. She has interned with The Times of India (Bangalore) as a city reporter and The Statesman (Calcutta) as a feature writer for the lifestyle department of the paper. Teresa is passionate about street photography, film criticism, and literary theory. She aspires to write real stories about real people.

Soumya Varier is a UG student at Mount Carmel College,studying communication studies. She likes photography, Sufjan Stevens and playing the keyboard.

Vajra Zayara is a student at Mount Carmel, who occasionally writes about fictional characters. Is originally from Kerala, would kill for Dosa and essentially is passive aggressive about everything. Within the past year, has gained experience working in Indian express, for a month and help curating and writing content for college newsletter. Collecting useless facts about unimportant things seem to be her favourite hobby.

Mijjy M. hails from Chennai, Mijjy and has been a student living in Bangalore for a little over a year. She has written for commercial purposes before, and writes for college credits now. Initially distant from her cultural roots, as of late Mijjy has fallen deep into the rabbit hole that is Indian art. She has accumulated a decent number of experience points in graphic design and can hold her own in pointless debates. Her hands may be small — but she can hold a lot of words in them. In her spare time she plays video games and reads manga.

Sara Athar has always had a keen interest in art, design and travel and local culture and hopes to use her Communications Degree to further explore those fields. She has interned under artist and illustrator Alicia Souza as a graphic designer and photographer. She has also been a Writer, Designer and Project Manager for Fine Print — a department issued newsletter that combines journalism, layout design and photography. She also has some experience in the performing arts and has directed an adaptation of Sartre’s No Exit. Sara believes she is at her creative best when she finds a story she worth pursuing and is able to add her perspective to it.

Yashaswini Ganesh is an undergraduate student from Mount Carmel College. A photographer and writer, she loves taking snapshots of the unseen and magnifying it for the world to see. Coming from a commerce background, she realized that she would rather be in the world of communication than calculating finances and managing businesses. A supporter of the Indian arts, she grew up learning Carnatic Music, drawing Indian folk art, dabbled in Bharatanatyam and can play the veena. When she is not writing stories or taking photographs, she obsesses over Television dramas, video games, and is a passionate ally of the LGBTQ+ community.

Bhargavi M Sridharan is an undergraduate who has previously worked and generated online content for organisations like DQ Labs, Rhapsody Music and Unsung People. In DQ Labs, she occupied the position of a content writing intern and worked closely along with engineers to meet SEO (Search Engine Optimization) standards. She also worked as a photographer for both Unsung People and Rhapsody Music. Other than being a media enthusiast, she loves to update herself on startup culture and advancements in the field of design and technology. In her free time, she listens to podcasts and watches foreign movies. Post her undergraduate education, she wishes to pursue a career in the field of social media analytics and occupy the position of an analyst someday.

Vasundra Venkatesh is a student majoring in Communication Studies. She enjoys reading autobiographies and short stories, especially those written by Indian authors. She likes reading the translated works of celebrated Tamil writer Perumal Murugan and find comfort in the stories of Sudha Murthy. She also enjoys reading Manga and watching Anime. She hopes to pursue Geopolitical Journalism and Conflict Studies after her finishing her Bachelor’s degree. She was an active part of the Blue Cross of India, an animal rescue shelter in her hometown Chennai. She is an outdoors-y person, constantly seeking out adventure. She enjoys trekking and adventure sports. She is State-level Hand-Ball player and hopes to channel her passion into writing.

Smrithi Menon is an undergraduate student who has experience working as a content writer for the educational startup company, DQ Labs. During that internship, she was assigned to write articles that provide educational solutions to design students. She has also worked as a co-editor for a non-profit positive journalism website, Unsung People. These stories ranged from personality profiles and reports on people and organizations working towards a better Bangalore, to help with problems from pollution to poverty. Her interests lie in politics and media, and the efforts to increase diverse representations in these areas. She hopes to learn about and support the art scene in her city through this project, while providing entertaining insights on the subject.

Romila Padhi is a student of Communication Studies at Mount Carmel College in Bengaluru, passionate about storytelling and art. More specifically, Indian art and artists. With almost 2 years of experience as a writer and a journalist, she’s obsessed with finding stories and creating newer, more effective ways of storytelling, that are smooth and efficient. She also works with photography, graphic design and illustration as a medium to help communicate stories visually.When she isn’t working, you’ll find Romila reading on the beach, painting on wall sized canvases, and shooting hoops.

Tanvi Rumale is a second year Communication Studies student at Mount Carmel College, who interned at an online news portal, The News Minute where she worked as a reporter for local news and covered various events during her time there. A poetry enthusiast who gets very excited at the mention of a new story, book or an old anecdote, she is also interested in history, travel and photography.

Divija Khater is an undergraduate student from Bangalore, she’s a self-acclaimed eight-year-old on a sugar rush who enjoys exploring new cultures through travel, different art forms and street photography and views life through a philosophical bent of mind. These experiences fuel her love for learning and adventures.

Simran Bhatnagar is a second year student. Having been the captain of the English team in school, and the editor and one of the writers of her newsletter team in college, she enjoys the art of writing and is looking forward to exploring the Indian art scene in Bangalore for her ongoing journalism projects. She has also interned with Startups Club as a content writer for about 4 weeks, where she wrote blog-posts and articles about entrepreneurship.
