Trailer Tuesday: 02/15/2022
Hello and welcome to Trailer Tuesday. Let’s explore some new trailers that dropped, other important horror news that happened, and some upcoming films being released this weekend.
Jordan Peele has kept the plot of his new film Nope in the dark since it was first announced in 2020. The first trailer dropped last Sunday at around 3:00 AM Eastern, and it looks like it will not disappoint. With most of the plot still not revealed at this point, we do know that Keke Palmer’s and Daniel Kaluuya’s characters are the descendants of the only Black-owned ranch with horse trainers in Hollywood. However, something more mysterious and otherworldly appears to be going on. Steven Yeun is also in the film where nothing has been said about his role. It seems that something extraterrestrial may be going on, and I greatly need more alien films. Aliens and horses make a genuinely perfect film with a release date of July 22, 2022.
Firestarter has risen from the ashes. The new Stephen King adaptation released its Trailer last Wednesday, and it looks terrific. Zac Efron stars as Andy McGee, a father who must protect his daughter Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) from secret agents and help her control her pyrokinesis. The second adaption of the novel will be released on May 13, 2022, in both theaters and Peacock. And one more thing, the legendary John Carpenter, along with his son Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies, will be composing music for it. That’s a pretty all-star team right there.
Ivan Reitman, the director of Ghostbusters, Ghostbusters II, Meatballs, and Stripes, passed away on February 12. Outside of his comedy work, he is also known for starting in Canada as David Cronenberg’s Shivers and Rabid producer. Ghostbusters stands as a landmark in horror-comedy, and he left behind a fantastic filmography.
As for movies being released this week, two take center stage. Cursed, a new werewolf movie written and directed by Sean Ellis is released theatrically.
The latest sequel to the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), is being dropped on Netflix this weekend.
I picked up The Uninvited from the local video store yesterday on my watch list. I adore a great ghost story, and this 1944 film has been on my list. Despite it not being pure horror, I cannot wait for the finale of Peacemaker. James Gunn has been knocking it out of the park, and I cannot wait for him to stick the landing.
