Sitch Sessions: Madisen Ward & The Mama Bear, ‘Yellow Taxi’

You’ve probably never heard of Independence, Missouri — a small satellite town of Kansas City, and birthplace of President Harry S. Truman. But it’s also home to two of folk music’s rising stars: Madisen Ward and his mother, Ruth, affectionately known as The Mama Bear. Together, the mother/son team have taken simple songs and injected them with blues, falsetto harmonies and gut string rigor. Their debut album, Skeleton Crew, feels like an extended coffee shop session — intimately live sounding, while polished to perfection by producer Jim Abbiss.

BGS had the pleasure of filming Madisen Ward and the Mama Bear at Los Angeles’s Judson Studios, where they performed “Yellow Taxi.” Check out the video and catch the duo on the road at the tour dates below.
