Sometimes when I write about a case in another country, I have to remind myself that their laws aren’t the same as ours. However, even with that reminder, I was utterly stunned by the case of Las Poquianchis. It is about four sisters in Mexico who ran a brothel. Yet, it was so much more than that. It’s a story of greed and corruption like I have never seen before.

Yet, as I was going through various articles and reports, I also found that some of what was written about them was exaggerated out of proportion to the reality of what really happened. Reading through the articles was an arduous process, to be sure. Especially since most of them were in Spanish and I had to translate them first.

The crimes the sisters committed spanned nearly a decade, and the public became aware of them in the early 1960s. When the story broke, the entire country was shocked to learn about the murders that were committed. Probably not so much the act of the murders themselves, but more so that they were masterminded by four women.
