Five star books and the best reads of 2023

This week I finished my 23rd book of 2023. There have been some duds: I wanted to love Mad Honey, Jodi Picoult’s latest, more than I did. But I’ve been pleasantly surprising by the number that have exceeded my expectations and deemed themselves worthy of 5-stars.

The last couple of years, I’ve almost exclusively binged memoirs. Who knew there were so many incredible ones out there?!

But now I’ve joined a book club with a group of friends and that’s meant throwing the occasional fictional novel back into the mix. Often one I wouldn’t have thought to pick for myself.

Station Eleven is one of those, and I’m so glad I followed my friend’s recommendation! Mandel’s unforgettable story has firmly rooted itself into my “life-time favourites” list.

Here’s Station Eleven and five others that received my 5-star stamp this year.

1) Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel
