Molly Returns for a Final Mystery in “The Maid’s Secret”
A review of Nita Prose’s 2025 novel
The Maid series has become some of my favorite mystery books I’ve ever read, thanks to its memorable characters and Prose’s neurodivergent protagonist, Molly. After enjoying the first two novels — The Maid and The Mystery Guest — I found last year’s Christmas novella, The Mistletoe Mystery, to be a bit of a letdown. Though I hadn’t expected the series to continue, I was thrilled to dive into its final installment: The Maid’s Secret.
Molly Gray’s life is about to change — and not just because of her recent promotion to Special Events Manager at the Regency Grand Hotel or her upcoming wedding to fiancé Juan Manuel. When the crew of the hit reality TV show Hidden Treasures, featuring renowned art appraisers Brown and Beagle, arrives at the hotel, Molly decides to bring some of her Gran’s old belongings for appraisal. To her astonishment, one item turns out to be a rare treasure worth millions. Overnight, she becomes a media sensation. But when the prized possession mysteriously vanishes in a daring heist, Molly finds herself at the center of a mystery.
