One Wrong Word by Hank Phillippi Ryan

I did not explore the source of the well-known saying, “Truth is stranger than fiction,” but I’m confident a fiction writer penned it. As I am currently working on the conclusion of a novel, that expression makes more sense than ever because life is random. Things happen every day that make no sense and would be entirely unbelievable if not for the fact that they are true.

But, in fiction writing, everything has to make sense. Questions must be answered, logic followed, and despite the randomness of plot twists and turns, the story must be sewn together by a singular, albeit long thread.

A well-written story not only draws the reader in but also invites them to solve the problems presented and challenges them to predict the solutions. As we turn pages, reading the evidence, our brain compiles the data and works to unravel the knots while we consume the story — pretty amazing thing that brain is.
