Decoded by Sheeba Sojanar is a powerful novel built on two strong themes: Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and family life stability. The novel is class apart as it paves way for two of its special characters: Vidhuna and Revanth. The novel builds its tempo of narrative against the innards of society that ignores the elephant in the room. This post explores why the novel is a must read for all of us normal folks that don’t like to have a shift in their perspectives while being part of the society.

1)

Powerful Story:

It’s a powerful story because of its very strong protagonist: Vidhuna. She hails from a different planet but landed on earth for basic observation and learning. She lives between two families on earth. And both families have no proper bonhomie of love and care. Families on earth are in shattering state due to overwhelming personal gains and comfort zone. The autistic boy Revanth’s family is always in a quarrel mode because of his ASD. But the girl helps him in securing a place in the society. She was able to pick up his silent thoughts and desires to excel in all walks of life. Family elements matter with a test of time. No matter how hard the situation is, family shouldn’t break away. The story is powerful as it collectively sheds light on ASD and family allegiance. Though the novel steered only in the conflicting issues direction, yet it highlights all aspects of our fragile societies.

2)

Powerful Message:

The story comes clean — it reinstates from time and over that the society should not look down to special children in the society, whether they have ASD syndrome or physically challenged.

They (Vidhuna and Revanth) despite being misfit or autistic at their places remain consistent and challenge the bigger problem in the society that is mistreating of autistic children. They help each other; similarly the society should also function co-operatively like them. Isn’t it? You must be moved by their will to outperform the traps set by the society.

3)

Powerful Narrative:

If the story and message is powerful in the novel, it is obvious that it was built on a spell of powerful narrative. The novel was perfectly placed with its literary elements like pace, tightly packed with emotions and family drama. The backdrop of the story was pragmatically created. There are many moments of tension and terseness in the story. It allows readers to immerse in it, to interpret the future of families, and the protagonist Vidhuna.
