Romance novels are easy to spot on. They are everywhere from online to book stores at railway stations and airports. Thus, by large, people pick them anytime and think of getting something ‘personal feeling’ from the love cum romance books. And I am no exception. A few days back I picked up ‘the Beautiful Sky’ by Harshwardhan. Though earlier I had experience of reading romance novels from authors like Ajay Pandey, Durjoy, Chetan, Nora Roberts, and Ravinder Singh, but this time I was on my own to pick up something fresh and anew. The novel was excellent. It held a message for those who believe in unconditional love and life struggle of rape victims. I am going to list down the factors as why I liked that romance novel.

1. Language:

Harshwardhan write with such panache and easiness that you think him as veteran in the romance genre. After reading the blurb and a couple of pages, I thought Harshwardhan is a veteran of romance fiction. I enjoyed his simplicity in expressing all sorts of feelings amidst the major events that once shook the soul of the book. He seems to have good grasp of language usage. Whether the story is terrific or mediocre, language matters a lot in literature.

2. Sub Themes and Mini Climaxes:

To get aplenty sub themes and climaxes, one needs to read crime/murder/suspense and thriller novels. Well, in romance people often see that mixture quite less. However, in this novel, I found sub themes and mini climaxes after every couple of pages, yes the stuff was laced with a serious affair of Vian and Amyra.

3. Longest Romance Novel:

The Beautiful Sky by Harshwardhan claims to be the longest romance novel in India. Indeed, it is…running over 500 pages, while reading one could feel its expanse and traverse. The novel is built on a powerful theme: love is beyond a common vista and true love demands sacrifice. While reading this novel about Amyra and Vian, you may conjecture that love is also blind and it’s not for everyone.

4. Pace:

The novel was fast paced as it’s a fine work of Hinglish. Most of the dialogues take place in Roman English i.e. in Hindi. Also Shayari is the vital backdrop of the novel. The lead guy Vian is a writer, shayar and lover. The novel is fast-paced and unfolds events from time and again. Due to its pace, I didn’t feel the bulkiness of the book.

5. Insight into Rape Victim Trauma:

This novel is about two lovers Vian and Amyra. The girl Amyra is gang-raped just before her marriage, bringing her whole world down. They were lovers in the college but separated…they meet after 3 years but in a different and gloomy stroke of fate. Vian helps Amyra to get back to life after rape incident. It explores the trauma and side effects of a rape victim. Other than being a slow burn romance novel, it also sheds light on the importance of a rape-free society.

Does true love exist or do people care for love over money and other status? All in all, it offers great insights into love affairs, long-distance relationship, and much more.

I know there could be more points that we can discuss about this book, but for me the mentioned ones mattered most. Read this book for a sheer delightful experience and share your thoughts on the same. I found it absolutely a great read with riveting insights. Happy reading!!
