Every reader has its own pace and grasping power. Some read around 500 words per minute, while others struggle to get over 300 words per minute. It is a matter of intention behind reading a book, some do it for fun, while many for information.

Well, in my case, I have been a reader of novels since my childhood days, however I never knew that speed reading is a skill. Initially I used to read for pleasure but with passage of time when I grew obsessed with increasing the number of books, I begin reading books little faster. Nevertheless reading books is a fine hobby.

Over a stretch of time, I have realized that regular readers remain obsessed with their reading routines. If the reading routine breaks down or when you struggle to complete a book, then a sense of guilt and loss and self-pity begin seething your heart. Being stagnant with a book is a depressing state for a serious reader. If you are motivated enough to finish a book, then with a bit smart planning finishing a book in a day is not a daunting task.

Check the Weather:

Pleasant weather augments your energy level and often gives you surging energy packets to boost your overall mental strength. Hence, if weather outside your home is mildly cold or pleasantly warm with gushes of breeze, naturally you are going to feel good about yourself and as a result you will feel like reading a book on yourself. One can enjoy reading a book in pleasant climate without the need of electricity during daytime. However with scorching heat all around your lawn or porch, you definitely need a resting place under the cool humming of an air conditioner. For extremely cold weather, make sure the room heater is on. Be it any weather, if you aren’t comfortable with yourself then it will be difficult to finish reading a book in a day.

Find a Reading Spot:

In a big home finding a reading spot is easy where the energy flow is quite positive unlike soporific ambience. It can be a study room, guest room, balcony, terrace, bedroom, etc. People generally prefer reading while partly lying on a bean bag, sofa, hammock, bed with bolsters around. A reading spot is that place where you are at leisure and disturbance is less and other people’s intervention is minimal.

Check the Size of the Book:

To finish a book in a day, the book size or the page count shouldn’t be unrealistic. Take a medium-sized book with 300 to 500 pages. If you are thinking of finishing a 1000-page book, like War and Peace, then it would take more than a day. The other way to finish a heavy book is to pick up a light literature over a tough fiction.

Take Breaks:

Reading continuously for hours will wear out your motivation, and you may feel tired before the day ends. It is suggested to take break after an hour’s reading or finishing a particular number of pages. Enjoy sipping caffeinated beverage, check notification on phone, go for a walk, or stand in the balcony to notice the sublime climate. The point is to give yourself a break and come back energized.

Get into the Book:

Instill an interest in you by knowing and thinking more about the characters and the plot following sub topics. Understand the main characters of the book with a focus and you will definitely chase them till end. If the book is utterly captivating, you will find reasons to finish it as soon as possible because you have got into it, you are curious to know all about it in one instance. That’s quite a human tendency.

Reading a book is like going through a slew of feelings. Sometimes you enjoy it so much that you feel sad when it’s over, other time you feel sick of it and ultimately you got to push yourself through that unnecessary torpid phase.
