Book Review — Revenge Theory by Onkar Sharma

--

Revenge Theory by Onkar Sharma is a different level mystery thriller built around the intriguing themes related to revenge, vengeance, retribution, and passion. The novel has all shades of these traits, offering from time to time. As I picked up the novel and completed initial chapters, I was thinking that it will turn out to be a murder mystery. However, as I chugged ahead, it came out that it is about one powerful woman’s retribution against a corrupt local politician.

As got by the blurb and preface, the owner of Tutu jams factory — Shyama Devi is troubled and assaulted by the local MLA Chauhan. She disappears for ten years. The new story begins, and there I meet Kuldeep and Pratigya. The storyline shuttles between Hamirpur, HP, and Chandigarh, Punjab. Once something awful has happened in the jam factory, now it all looks new with educational affairs, schools and institutes around. But old wounds hardly heal?

I liked Kuldeep’s bold and ferocious attitude towards the flaws in the education society. He runs and manages SB school in Hamirpur. And Pratigya owns a renowned coaching training institute. The latter is looking for a business partner to extend her roots in Hamirpur, and Kuldeep seems the best fit. But why? To know that you got to read the book till last.

I was enjoying the book and its optimum pace, the way events and revelations were done, all was mild. However, the urge to know more about their connection with Chauhan kept me intriguing and I breathed finally after completing the book. The iron lady Shyama Devi kept working towards her revenge goals but like a clever warrior. The story doesn’t go wayward with sweeps and history of characters, I was surprised to know the ending…it was related to new birth technology that is yet to penetrate our societies fully. If Shyama Devi was tortured by that local MLA…well then what Pratigya and Kuldeep are doing in the story? As the bundle of surprises opens up gradually, the tempo and momentum of the book turns ecstatic.

You will love this book if you are in for offbeat revenge thrillers. Since it is a traditionally published novel, Onkar’s narrative prowess was impressive. No redundancy, he delivered even the simplest of human equations with charming narrative.

The book is available to buy from Amazon India and Kindle store.
