It’s easy to quit. Stopping takes zero willpower. Procrastination is a simple solution when the alternative is hard. But when we have that idea — doing work that matters for people who care (a la Seth Godin) — we need to get off our collective ass and onto the factory floor.

Doing the work is hard.

Doing the work is painful.

Doing the work is demotivating.

Which is why doing the right work for the right people is the most-rewarding thing you’ll do in your life. Not because of the ‘win’ at the end, but because of the sacrifices you made to get there.

It feels great to put everything you have into something worth doing.

A creative practice is the long-game. When you do creative work, the work is the goal. This is a process of daily momentum. There’s no task we do once and our problems are solved forever. If you have a creative dream, this list is for you.

These are all mental exercises, because starting and doing the work is 99% inside your mind. If we can start the flywheel spinning and get past our inner-demons, the rest of what life throws is all cupcakes.
