How to remove the distraction from your best work…

As a creative person it’s easy to get distracted from the work that matters. Most of our work is blue-collar, long-game work that might take months or years to show a return for our time invested.

We might spend months building a course, or years writing a book. Sometimes it’s hard to see that our efforts will pay off in the end. Sometimes we have trouble convincing ourselves, not just the people close to us.

On top of this delayed gratification issue, we have all these internal battles within ourselves:

  • We feel like impostors — unqualified to play in the arena with the ‘big boys’
  • We feel like our work isn’t good enough — perfectionism eats-away at our progress
  • We feel like we’ll never finish — so why keep going?
  • We feel like copycats and also-rans — so why throw our hat in the fire?
  • We feel as if no one will want our work once we ship it — which delays the shipping even further
