How to Add the ‘Private Note’ Function to Your Medium Stories

One little change to keep those typo notices behind closed doors

This is a little hack I learned recently. I know this function isn’t new, but I’ve never used it until now. If you’ve ever had typo comments, or comments from readers that would’ve been best, given in private — this little tip is for you.

While there’s no DM function in Medium, you can leave private notes to a writer, based on your comments for a particular story.

Private notes are not a default setting when you start your account. There’s a little tweak you’ve got to make in your settings before you can accept private notes.

Start in your settings —

  1. Click your face
  2. Go down and click ‘settings’
  3. Under settings, click ‘account’
  4. Under account, move the slider under ‘allow private notes’ to ‘on’
