If you want your hard work on Medium to pay off, there are a few key things to consider before giving up after your first 100 stories don’t earn anything.

While the partner program will never be a strong income source, you can adjust a few things in your stories to make your time in the seat a little more worthwhile.

The partner program is only the tip of the Medium income spear. Consider your partner earnings as small donation towards your overall writing income.

Most of your Medium stories won’t be discoverable at all times. I’ve written almost 1,700 stories and 5–10% are read in a particular month. The algorithm isn’t going to promote all your work, only a small handful at a time.

There aren’t enough Medium eyeballs for every writer to have every story promoted at all times. Medium isn’t Google. This is kind of a blow to the ‘passive income’ crowd, but only if all you care about is your partner earnings.
