A gift ungiven

Refuse to open it

None spared
Fewer understood
Even less survived

A bottle full of tears, rubbed from red cheeks by small, trembling fists
A box full of kind touches, withheld from others by fingers’ knuckles barely wrinkled
A bag full of embraces, stored in the basement behind the boxes from the move
that took you from those who encouraged you
A trunk full of feelings, thought but never voiced
A coffin brimming with the wasted human capacity for love, support, and acceptance
A ribbon adorning every one

Have you ever made a difficult decision, that you knew in the long run was correct, but regretted it forever? Did that decision ever involve someone who had little-to-no ability to influence that decision? Did you ever regret the regret that you felt about said decision as a result?
