A Guide to Poetic Microdosing

This is not a drill

April is NOT the cruellest month.

April is Poetry Month.

For Centuries People Have Experimented With Poetry

Poetry is the oldest form of literature, predating the origin of writing itself. I know we’re all time-poor, and poetry often gets shoved to the bottom of the priority list. But here’s a simple solution: poetic microdosing.

Recommended Dose

The concept is very similar to that of LSD, MDMA, DMT and psilocybin microdosing. Each morning, on an empty stomach, you swallow a micro poem (poem that is approximately 90 to 95 percent smaller than that of a typical poem).

The recommended dose is 5 to 10 percent that of a regular dose.

Expected Effects

The idea is not to get swept away — and lost inside — the poem, but to swallow and embody the micro poem. Let the tiny poem work its magic within you throughout the day.

The practice of poetic microdosing is believed to help humans feel more creative, become grounded and achieve better daily equilibriums.

Potential Complications

If you forget your morning microdose, don’t fret! You can take it at any time during the day or night. If you don’t suffer any unforeseen side effects, you can increase your dose as you see fit.

Poetic overdose is very rare, occurring in only 0.00000000005% of cases.

Long-Term Effects

Poetry can be habit-forming; however, clinical trials suggest poetry is a beneficial habit for all humans and should not be feared. In fact, studies encourage replacing old habits with new poetic habits. They link new poetic habits to longevity and ecstatic joy.

By the end of April, you should be feeling poetically inspired. On the 27th of April, you can share your poetic microdosing journey with the world by participating in Poem in Your Pocket Day

One-Step Further

If microdosing isn’t doing it for you, then you might have to up the ante. Perhaps you’re ready for the full dose. Perhaps you’re even ready to write your own poetic dose. Becoming a poetic prescriber is part of the process.

You can take and make as much poetry as you please. There are no upper guidelines for poetic dosing or prescribing. Moderation should be avoided. More is more. More is better.

Poetry on Medium Tips

My advice to consuming poetry on Medium is this: Don’t read poetry within the app. Open Medium in your phone’s web browser, and turn the phone on its side.

Aesthetics and formatting are crucial elements of poetry. The Medium app, by not rotating, is a poetry slaughterhouse. It’s where poems go to die.

So, to ensure ultimate poetic satisfaction, read the poem sideways in the web browser.
