An Air Force Wife’s Las Vegas Life
A Young Mom Not Ready
pomegranates and roses
fake dusty roses
in a gecko-filled
linen closet
delicate petals
red dusty petals
in oil and water
encased by glass bottles
the linens, they smell
of fake dusty roses
but they’re not
they are real
for sweetness, we wait
on hot sidewalks are bushes
ripe pomegranate bushes
and rosemary gardens
rock gardens in rain
tiny toddlers in strollers
and pinches and pain
from buckles and straps
in a hot Vegas rain
the smell of wet pavement
of hot city tar
melting on tarmacs
it’s Red Flag
it’s jets!
Air Force pilots and zippers
sunglasses and jets
it’s Red Flag
it’s ruckus
it’s hot and it’s wet
the smell of the rain
on jet pavement at night
loud roaring jets
pilot laughter and lights
