Concussion

How could you say that?
How could you articulate
a sentiment that physically
violated me?
Feelings
inaudible and fetal
thoughts
immobile and blunt
Thoughts are feelings
that course, sometimes unbidden
down an arm
through a hand
onto paper, into a phone, into our
social ether.
Flashing like shattered glass
Ripping like shrapnel
Collateral damage of imprecise cognition

How often do you really consider the impact of your words and actions? If we could connect on a visceral, cognitive level and we could perceive the pain, heartbreak, frustration, and sadness in ourselves exactly as those we have negatively affected feel it, I believe that the social media landscape, and the world in general, would be a much friendlier and peaceful place.

Don’t let your ego blind you to the emotional craters you leave in your wake.
