Kill Your Darlings

An observing poem with supporting visuals by a global citizen from Amsterdam.

A man-made metaphor that doesn’t discriminate.

One size that fits all.

This poem is about having the courage to make decisions and choosing whether to continually push your boundaries and grow. This involves the art of consciously letting go. For some, it’s a diabolical dilemma; for others, a paradox, as they are confined by their own self-limiting beliefs.

It’s about taking a step back to decisively choose between avoiding progress or revisiting the drawing board to create anew. Moving forward and reinventing oneself is essential, like cutting the proverbial cord and finding a new path —

By asking yourself,

“What would the cat do?”

Kill your darlings
Ending everything
Askew
By any means
Of necessary mercy
Stepping back
You can start anything
Aslew
Sole outlook
Alone
Worth climbing
The barrier
To entry
Without stepping
On the same crack
Enjoy
The view
Up top
Starting
From scratch
Your SKU
A loveletter
To
The dress rehearsal
Of
Something
New
At last
If only
You knew
You'd come
Out
On top
In slow fashion
Without
Doing yourself
The ultimate kindness
Of looking back at
Once upon a time
Labels of the past

M. Maquis - Off the beaten track of interpretation
Bouncin’ and Behavin’ Poems

Something. Else. In holding water I find what leaves me there. The ambiguity of language and getting lost in its translation. A terminal case of the 'Why'.
