Life is Fleeting

I can’t stop staring at my phone

We live in a world
Where we pick up our phones
More than we pick flowers

We bury our heads into
A virtual world
That is supposed to teach us
How to live

While we are dying to
Keep up with the latest
Lip balm
Or deodorant scent

We fight to stay awake through
Work, while
Our kids are being “taught”
In school

Taught what, you ask?

Where to buy the $300 shoes
That everyone has
When last week
It was the $300
Hoodie
That they had to have

They learn who is hot
And who is not
And to memorize
All the countries in
Africa

Meanwhile
People are
Starving and kids are in the bathroom
Vaping
While their parents try to make a living
To pay
For these
Devices, shoes, and hoodies
