Watching What You Can’t Hold
Poetry microdose: Day Twenty-Five
smoke-stack girl
floating just beyond reach
when i said i like chocolate delicacies
i meant mouthfuls of milo and strawberries on spoons
smoke-stack girl
dancing in the breeze
when i said you washed over me like a storm
i meant you filled my heart with rain
smoke-stack girl
swimming inside a bubble of champagne
when i said you leave me empty-hearted
i meant, in the sun, i’m a puddle left to dry
smoke-stack girl
cradling the denim-blue moon
when i said i’m a cloud waiting to die
i meant you’re a graveyard in the sky
