What The Grasshopper Said To The Cricket

A Poem About Summer

Here is the summer of our lives
(the grasshopper said
to the cricket):

a sip of lemon on our tongues,
the moon a puddle of ice cream,
the sun a sliver of melon.

Here is the summer we will always remember:
a strip of sand between two bodies,
a flash of blue that might be someone else’s eyes.
