So, that was Brommapojkarna and this is The BP Way

This post was originally published on Thursday 21st April, but I’ve since moved it to Medium after figuring out I didn’t have the time to manage a new site. That is why the post may read a little strange if you think it was published today.
I tweeted something after the match on Sunday along the lines of I’d just left my wife, had gone on my first date and it felt better than expected. What I was trying to say, in a funny sort of way and I accept it probably didn’t work, was that I enjoyed the match even though I didn’t really know if I would.
I was worried about supporting a side that wasn’t mine, a side that I picked. But it turns out that doesn’t matter. I think because it’s football and you buy the scarf, you become part of the tribe.
I feel like a fan already and can’t wait for tomorrow. And it was raw. And very honest.
To top it all off, the football was a lot better than I expected too. I mean, a lot better. There was no long ball, hit and hope rubbish that I’ve had to endure this season and there was a definite desire from all the players.
And as I don’t know all the player names yet and I’ve only got numbers to reference them I made up some names for a couple of them. 7 was ‘the hipster’ while 2 was ‘the bulldog’.
Number 6 is Gurra — but I was told that in the pub and it’s his real name. I’ve not got names for 10, 14 and 17 yet but they stood out. I think 10 was local or lives close by and 14 and 17 both have something special about them.
Talking of special things
I learnt at the weekend that BP are basically a feeder club for all the bigger clubs in Sweden. It wasn’t described to me in that way, the person that told me described in quite a nice way, but that is what I tood from it.
And I learnt this in the pub while a couple of other converstaions were going on so I might have this not entirely correct, but it appears that BP make a player, a bigger club comes in and the player wants to go.
And who can blame the player and who can blame the club? I mean, on first impressions BP isn’t a club with aspirations of winning the top flight, it’s about offering something to the community. The facilities are on a par with some non-league clubs in England and even though there is a new stand coming, there is a wooden stand behind one of the goals that will seat 50 people.
And I’m fairly sire that someone told me that there is a team in the top flight with three of the four defenders having come through the ranks of BP. Imagine having those three and number 14 this season for BP?
And I mean no disrepsect to the three current defenders or for the players that I didn’t mention above, but lets be honest, Piteå hardly offered anything in the match and BP could have won by letting number 2 run around after everything.
And on that and for those wondering, the result was 2–0 to Brommapojkarna and on the sidelines Olof Mellberg was quite animated. He still has the beard and he still doesn’t look that scary, but believe me, I’d not want to find out. On a side note, again not sure how true this is as I was three beers in, but Mellberg isn’t talking to the press, so there is not even something for me to copy and paste for you or a link to an interview.
Tomorrow it’s BK Forward in Örebro. Yep, I’ve no idea either, but it will be fun. And on that, thanks for reading.
