Are Expectations Meant To Hurt?

Is there a time to expect something from someone? Or are you never supposed to expect anything from anyone? But is it possible to build a relationship without expecting something in return?

People say it’s good to expect the least from someone so that even a little effort seems more significant, but somehow we expect the most and receive less than the least in return!

Is it just me, or whenever you expect something from a person, they break your heart in the most unexpected way?
