Can I Speak?

An outcry of words

--

I open my eyes to the alarm
A list of chores comes to mind
I shut my eyes to a groan
But the list does not disappear

What for breakfast?
What dress to wear?
Which bills are due?
Will my proposal be accepted?
Who to avoid?
Who to call today?
Is someone stalking?
Did I forget to put off the stove?
After office trip to —
groceries or doctor or garage?
Clean the mess of bags, shoes, socks, books?
Did I miss the garbage truck?
Can I order the coat this month or
First, pay the EMI?
Should I have slapped the bastard?
Was I too rude?
Is the lady next door ok?
Am I healthy or is something wrong?
Why is it so silent?
Can my mind be silent for a few minutes?
But if it goes silent, is it dementia?
And someone knocks on the door —
Are you still asleep?

Stream of consciousness is a style of narrative and I believe if our endlessly roaring mind starts speaking, there will be an outcry of unimaginable chaos. But then, can we really speak our minds? Some do — and are labelled ‘MAD’.

Mind and memories go hand in hand. Isn’t it? My earlier post may throw some light —
