Dear Mr. Historian,
I need the answer to this question.
At first, I thought it was sweet,
reliving the past, every detail of things
like how we met at a job I started
because I needed a paycheck- had
a week to secure work. Running on
emergency funds.
Then it was every detail of the sports games,
not just hometown games or something
like knowing the score of the most recent game.
You knew the scores from 20–30 years ago,
in both college and professional games.
Finally, we started to date and I lived with
the ghost of your ex-flame, never girlfriend
and yet you compared her to me at every turn.
I loved you but hated it, and the thing that I
have to ask you:
have you ever forgotten anything, ever?
Thank you for reading my work today. It was inspired by the prompt “forgotten” by Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她):
