The
best poems
you might write
when you don’t ask why
laughter and lightness
makes a carefree tone
room for life’s quirks
joys or sorrow too

No
need for solemn
nor needed poet’s mask
if you let your words flow
unchained from any task
sprinkle moments of humor
touch of light and creativity
rises a great poem
vibrant and free

So
perhaps — once in a while
Don’t take yourself too seriously — my friend!
make room for your inner poet
to play and transcend
to capture life’s essence
in a playful way

And
here’s a joke
To brighten up your day:

Why did the poet bring a ladder?
to reach new heights in their wordplay!

maybe, maybe not
— but —
the best poems often come when you let yourself play — What do you say?

Thank you to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for the prompt: some of the best poems come from not taking yourself so goddamn seriously and for considering this response for her publication. When I read Lucy’s prompt, it inspired this poem about the joyous moments when creativity flows effortlessly, unburdened by the weight of seriousness perhaps a gentle reminder to myself and to all fellow poets and creators that sometimes the most profound art emerges from a lighthearted, playful spirit. A sort of gentle nudge towards embracing the whimsical nature of life and allowing the inner poet to dance freely, resulting in verses that capture the true essence of our experiences. So — dear reader — here’s to the unfiltered, playful, spontaneous moments where the best poems are often born and I look forward to reading your playful creations.

Thank you for reading!
