If I Was in Wu-Tang Clan, This Would Be My Super Cool Rap Name
I am Nia Simone McLeod no longer. From now on — call me this.
One of my favorite bits of hip-hop trivia is that Childish Gambino got his rap name from a Wu-Tang name generator. He’s confirmed it many times, including the almost 10-year-old interview with Fuse below.
Don’t get me wrong; I love my name. “Nia” sounds like the romantic lead of an urban fiction novel set in Chicago where she falls in love with a has-been Broadway star during their 10-year high school reunion. But, having a cool rap name/alter ego/Flavor of Love-esque nickname would be awesome.
In pursuance of a super, duper cool name worthy of entry into the greatest hip hop group of all time, I wrote “Nia Simone McLeod” into the Wu-Tang name generator. And, what do I get…?
Annoyin’ Bastard.
From this moment on, call me Annoyin’ Bastard. I will answer to nothing else.
Here’s the Wu-Tang name generator Childish Gambino allegedly used. If you type in “Donald Glover”, you get Childish Gambino. Cool stuff.
Also, what name did you get? Will you now go by this for all of eternity?
Nia Simone McLeod is a writer, Hot Cheetos connoisseur, and professional complainer. The Medium publications she created, oh, write, coiled, and bling bling are super lit. And oh yeah — she’s got a newsletter too; because doesn’t every writer have a newsletter these days?
