Okay But The Truth Is …

a poem and a writing challenge

The truth is
I start out with phrases like
“the truth is”
too often

and then find myself
immediately editing myself
deleting that first line
to say

okay maybe not The Truth
but My Truth
but is that even the case?
is it Truly the Truth Across All Time?
Across All Contexts?
probably not

all this to say
it wasn’t the truth
or it was, in true, limited fashion.

How a little, common phrase
can hold so much weight
to be walked back and edited
with more recent wisdom.
