A Visit to an Old Library

The last time
I entered a room
lined with shelves,
it was filled
with a certain light —
like a guesthouse
for the mind to roam.

A library —
a physical space
where whispers are loud
where settled dust
leaves traces
and time feels paused —
uncovering
— a gentle hush
— a calm washes over
— a sense of peace
— a place of wonder
— a haven.

A soundless chorus
of stories and silence
in the backdrop —
each book is a window
each page a home.

A moment
of mindfulness
truly beyond compare —
a stillness
and an invitation
to unwind your mind.

Thank you to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for the prompt: #WritingPrompt: the feeling you get in a library — when was the last time you were there? and for considering this response for her publication.
This is an attempt to capture the essence of a library, where a visit feels like stepping into a sanctuary of stories and quiet contemplation. I often find within these quiet sanctuaries that each book holds a world waiting to be explored and cherished. There is almost a soundless chorus, and one feels drawn to the melody. I am deeply appreciative of librarians and others who have worked tirelessly to make this a reality for many of us. I hope this is an experience we can preserve for generations to come. Like a visit to a library, I deeply appreciate the time and effort you have invested in allowing me to share this experience. I’m genuinely grateful to Lucy for her prompts and to YOU — dear reader — for your time and support.

Thank you for reading!
