Exercise and I
share a peculiar dance
one I attempt to forget
at any given chance
It’s not refined waltz
more like a chaotic brawl
a ballet of burpees
where I flail and fall

Yoga poses?
quite a laugh
my balance in dispute
Pilates?
more like pil-awful
that’s the attribute
an awkward duet
a dance of chaos

But, I persist
hoping someday
our rhythm will improve

Uneasy
for sure
as I eye those steps
no less — twenty flights of stairs?
a climb I may pursue
with no regrets
stairs, take notice
perhaps one day I’ll conquer you
bit by bit — let’s go!

Yet
that elevator

well, that’s a definite “whoa” too!!
also — does a moving staircase count?

Thank you to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for the prompt: how often do you like to exercise? Could you take 20 flights of stairs no problem? and for considering this response for her publication. This is my attempt to describe an ongoing tango with exercise — more of a poetic embrace of the struggle — think comical dance where each step and stumble narrates the honest chaos of my fitness journey. Yet, within this playful chaos, I do genuinely value the role exercise plays in my life. So, dear reader, join me in this lighthearted yet relentless pursuit of fitness, where even the allure of the ‘elevator’ or ‘moving staircase aka escalator’ can’t overshadow the satisfaction of climbing 😉. Or maybe it does — and that’s cool too!

Thank you for reading!
