A PROMPTED POEM

Things I Miss

That Keep Me Awake

--

I’ve been wandering
for a time
lonely, but
not alone
and tonight,
I can’t sleep

I miss
that world
full of movement
and freedom
and spontaneity

I miss
thoughts appearing,
unexpected,
then slowly
sifting and sorting,
winnowing the words

I miss
the complicated love of
my children
and
the simple love of
their little ones

I miss
how, once upon a time,
the water
gave order
to my chaos

I miss
that life
and
tonight,
I can’t sleep

As we all adjust to our “new normal” I’m sure I am not the only one who occasionally can’t sleep. Thanks for reading :)

Thanks to Lucy Dan 蛋小姐 (she/her/她) for sending this prompt my way😻
