Water Therapy

a page in the healing journey

As I’m lowered into the pool,
the water feels soothing, warm,
my legs feel weightless
where they normally feel like tree trunks.

It’s in the water that I remember
how to stand for longer than
five or ten minutes.
That I can do the exercises
my physical therapist requests.

I feel minimum pain as
I kick, do heel raises,
march and squat
something that would
create valleys of pain
if I was standing.

I’m grateful for the water.
the way it feels, the way
I feel relatively healed
once inside.

I am currently in aqua therapy due to a long-standing health condition. When I read Sharing Randomly’s recent poem on floating and how it clears the mind, I thought immediately of the experience of aqua therapy.
