I took a big leap forward this year and pitched my first TV show. It went… okay.

The meetings were originally supposed to be in person, as you do, but because of bats and viruses, they ended up being on Zoom. Don’t get me wrong, it was great to pitch my show in cozy pants.

But I really felt the lack of physical connection. Plus, I had to keep reminding myself to not shout my pitch. ’Cause that’s not how the Internet works.

After ten producer meetings, no one was interested in what I was selling. I tried to reframe the whole thing as a learning experience but to be honest, it sent me into a bit of a writing funk.

Nothing felt right. I wasn’t connecting with any of my ideas, which meant that others weren’t connecting to them either. I was down.

Obviously, the state of the world comes into play at some point. And the relentlessness gauntlet that is parenting during a pandemic. But I can’t control those things.

So I made a list of things I could control.
