How The Breaking News Network supports #Giving Tuesday partners and advocates in getting their word out

The third annual #Giving Tuesday™, the brainchild of New York’s 92Y, happens on December 2, 2014, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving. It’s a national day to support good causes that follows shopping oriented Black Friday and CyberMonday.

If you’re a nonprofit, please participate and benefit from the generosity displayed by millions on #GivingTuesday. Here’s how The Breaking News Network (“BNN”) can contribute to getting your word out to your community.

All #GivingTuesday advocates can be amplified by the city feed of The Breaking News Network where they are located.

For example, when @MDNonprofits, the umbrella organization supporting Maryland’s nonprofits, adds the hashtag #GivingTuesday to their tweet, @BuzzinBaltimore, our Baltimore news feed, retweets the tweet to its Baltimore readers.

In addition, the tweet’s link is rendered in real time at the website Breaking Baltimore News. Amplification is selective and voluntary; if the advocate tweet does not include the hashtag #GivingTuesday, there is no retweet. Every advocate needs to be authorized by the BNN; you can apply below (if your organization is already authorized to our media amplification program, no need to apply again).

Last year for the good of #GivingTuesday, the BNN amplified the #GivingTuesday tweets of over 1,000 nonprofits, totaling roughly 8,000 retweets, with a one day reach of over 30 million. Our goal for 2014 is 5,000 nonprofits.
