Amazon Prime messed up my expectations
And now I want everyone to deliver next day
Until not long ago, I used to make my online purchases through a variety of places, including the manufacturers’ main sites. Last year I decided to give Amazon Prime a try, and since then, I’ve found myself not only making the majority of my purchases through Mr. Bezos’ site, looking to make the most out of my subscription; while taking advantage of their usually lower prices and customer service. There a several stories I can share about Amazon’s customer service alone.
Despite all that, I still buy through other merchants under specific circumstances, like a specialised item or a brand with a particular proposition that adds value to me.
The problem with this is, that not only I’m becoming overly reliant on Amazon, but the fact that it has drastically changed my expectations towards other brands; making everyone else look slow, sluggish and inefficient.
Because when you realise that the now “traditional” 2–3 days “fast” delivery that top brands like Nike (my most recent experience) provide is no longer appealing, and even seems shockingly slow, that is the moment when you recognise that, despite that in many cases it seemed like a matter of perception, and in orders is actually true; the reality is that Amazon Prime has now raised the bar so high, that indeed it has turned its extraordinary service into your daily normal; and from that it is hard to move away.
