Biden on Immigration

POTUS on move and yes, Joe Biden makes the 46th President of the USA. This stands as one of the most desirous jobs in the world which is currently facing various challenges ranging from fraying ethnic relations, unemployments, economy to be brought back to track and especially handling the pandemic situation.

But to our astonishment this Democratic candidate has much to offer and has proved the same from his actions in just a few days in office hence, undoing the trump. The administration undertook a series of executive decision, major being the Paris Agreement, removal of the ban on entries from mostly Muslim-majority countries, intensive take on environmental protections, halting the construction of the wall on the US-Mexico border, and major efforts to expand diversity and equality for ethnic groups in the federal government and the boastful bragging won’t stop.

The question now arises: Are these effective and aren’t these an eyewash for netizens/media just to divert attention? The answer is “certainly not”, these changes are not only pragmatic in terms but effective on paper too, deals have been signed. Recently, this change of tone is somewhat helpful to the Hispanic community — the illegal immigration, various programmes have been put to force to lighten the tension in the area. “Biden outlined his plan to reduce migration by addressing its root causes — increasing resettlement capacity as well as lawful immigration routes while reducing the previous administration’s draconian policies” quotes Lopez Obrador, The Mexican President. All these, for now, are much anticipated changes and have much political setting to it, thus making it bit hard as this administration has to gain support from sides and factions and reverse these restrictive policies and the complex realities of a dysfunctional immigration system.

The recent National Estimates shows more than 11 million people are illegally residing in America and have no registration proof of any kind, but processes now have been laid down to provide them with legal status and other affirmative actions to promote and sustain them, which also includes various healthcare, food-rations and education incentives for them. The present administration has shown a positive attitude towards migrants of various states in comparison to the earlier Trump regime.

Not only this, Joe Biden started his campaign with promises to immigrants on the coveted H-1B visa, to provide solutions. On January 25, the President withdrew a proposal which disallows the dependents of H-1B holders on H-4 visas to work in the US. The immigrant community is now breathing a sigh of relief. If taken in-depth, these are in big connotations of “American Rescue Plan” and others.

All proposed unilateral changes are spontaneous in nature and are shored up to bring huge changes which are surely bound to uncertainties due to ongoing pandemic and economic recessions, thus making it hard to conclude with the results for now.
