We Do Not Have Any Rights Left

For all art and criticism, a little dash of narcissism is necessary.

But here, there lies a terrible temptation.

Art and criticism are driven between the gap between me and The Outside.

Instead of leading us to idolatry of the self, this chasm should lead us to self-sacrificial love of others, and an emptying-out that demands no price, and asserts no claims.

If you seek truth and beauty, you no longer have any rights.

You must subordinate all to a higher vision.

For now we see as through a glass, darkly…

But then face to face.
