Just as the title suggests, each episode of the show, narrates a poem (most times, more than one), that forms the crux of the current situations that are characters are in. It is about love — having a small crush, or an unrequited one; it is about family; it is also about loss, either of a human being or of an opportunity that they didn’t utilise; and it is about anger, about the helplessness, that follows. Each poem beautifully ties all the characters together for that moment, even if they are going through separate troubles.

The drama was helmed by the same team that produced Drinking Solo, hence there is a large range of similarities between the two. The repetitive running gags, the screenplay, the warm undercurrent behind all the laughs, and also, the set of characters — the rich, serious guy; the equally handsome second lead; the hardworking girl, and her older best friend.

If the characters there were teachers and students, here they are physical therapists, who help patients, as google describes it, ‘reduce pain and restore mobility’ and in the same manner, our characters are trying to move on from their past relationships, healing their broken heart.

Nevertheless, A Poem A Day is a hassle-free watch; it doesn’t keep you glued to your screens, waiting in anticipation for the next episode, and yet is a soulful and heartfelt reminder that sadness is a definite part of our lives, but we are never alone in it. A little empathy, a little laughter and a poem a day, even in the gloomiest of days, can drive the blues away.
