How Record Labels deny, manipulate, force, and bleed artists for their catalogs

I hated Accounting.

I hated it so much that I waited until my senior year in college to get that class out of the way. I was poor and didn’t buy books. But I had to buy that accounting book and when I cracked that book open and saw terms like, “abatement, absorption cost, accrual basis, bequest, debenture, etc,’ I knew I was in trouble.

Like the language that lawyers use, accountants have their own language. Thousands of words like those up there…and you have to figure out if you’re supposed to add or subtract from your account based on them words? No cheat sheet or nothing? I was happy to get a D- in that class, celebrated like Arsenal won the Champions League or Senegal won the World Cup.

I’m not alone in my hatred of Accounting either. Very few people “love” the subject. But here’s the thing — it is said that Accounting is the language of Business — the LANGUAGE of BUSINESS. If reading that doesn’t give you pause, then shit…

Everyone knows Al Capone and Eliot Ness, yet, even after seeing The Untouchables, very few people know anything about Frank J. Wilson OR Forensic Accounting.
